Several Ways to Arrive in Washington DC
Washington, D.C. is a top destination for domestic and international travelers. There are four main hubs: three airports and one train station.
DCA
Reagan National Airport primarily receives domestic travelers. The exceptions are flights from Mexico and Canada. The airport is in Arlington, Virginia, only a few miles from the D.C. border. The modes of transportation available upon arrival are subway, taxi, Uber, and car service. Shuttle buses only run to the local Virginia Hotels, not to hotels in Washington, DC. Taxis are reasonably priced, and Uber can be less, but they can easily be more as pricing is dictated by supply and demand. Car services begin at $100.00 and up depending on the size of the party.
IAD
Dulles International Airport handles both domestic and international flights. It is located in Chantilly, VA, roughly 25 miles from Washington, DC. Modes of transportation are the subway (approximately a 2-hour ride), taxi/Uber (45-60 minutes), or car service. Taxis run an average of $70. While Uber can be less sometimes, they can be as much as double at other times. Car services begin at $200.00 and up, depending on the size of the party.
BWI
Baltimore Washington International Airport receives both domestic and international travelers. It is approximately 40+ miles from Washington, DC. The modes of transportation are the MARC train to Union Station, taxi/Uber (60-90 mins), and car services. Shuttles are available through a company called Go Shuttle. We would estimate that a taxi would cost roughly $100.00. Uber could be more or less dependent on supply and demand, traffic, etc. The Marc train is $8 and would put you in the heart of D.C. at Union Station, which would then be a reasonable taxi/uber ride to your destination. Car services begin at $250.00, depending on the party size.
Union Station
Built in 1905, Union Station is the only train station in Washington, DC. It is geographically located in the center of D.C. between the 4 quadrants, N.W., NE, S.E., and S.W., just three blocks from the U.S. Capitol. Union Station is serviced by Amtrak, MARC (local train), VRE (local train), and METRO (Subway station). It is also the location of many interstate bus companies. Generally, any destination is a short taxi/uber ride from here. The local Metro station stop here is on the red line. Still, it will feed you to any lines that service the D.C./Metro region.
