Private DC Moonlight Tour

We all know the grandeur of Washington’s monuments and memorials during the daylight hours is stunning. But have you ever seen D.C.’s most classic attractions in the evening? Your guide will share classic stories and fun facts about each location, and you will get to experience them all as the sun sets across the Potomac River.

First-time visitors to Washington, DC, are always taken back by the amount of open space and greenery on the National Mall. What many visitors don’t realize is that the Nation’s Capital can be just as beautiful, if not more beautiful, at night.

All of the monuments and memorials are open 24/7, and of course, because they are illuminated, they are possibly even more impressive at night than in the daytime. Sites like the White House and the U.S. Capitol, although closed to visitors in the evening, are equally impressive buildings at night.

Tour Details

Washington, D.C., is home to many conventions week in and week out, and our Monumental Moonlight Tour is by far the most popular tour with those attendees. After a conference, this is truly the best way to see the city in an organized fashion with a guide leading the way, guiding you on and off the bus, allowing you to see the sites up close and personal.

Another advantage of doing an evening tour is that it allows you to focus your daytime touring on sites that are only available during the day, such as Arlington National Cemetery and any of the 20 Smithsonian Institution buildings, including the Natural History Museum, the Air and Space Museum and the American History Museum among others.

Our summers can be both hot and humid. Evening tours would allow you to tour and escape the daytime heat and humidity as you travel from site to site in one of our air-conditioned vehicles.

The most underrated site we visit that visitors would rate the most beautiful at night is the Korean War Memorial. It’s hard to explain in words, but at night, you feel as if you are witnessing the 19 soldiers live and in person as they are on the battlefield. Rainy or steamy days make it even more eerily realistic.

See the Tour Destinations below for a list of stops. You can customize this tour.

Situated on the Tidal Basin with a perfect view of the White House, the Jefferson Memorial honors our third president, second vice-president, and first secretary of state. Thomas Jefferson’s legacy is enshrined here in a building befitting of America’s original renaissance statesman.

U.S. Capitol

The center of legislation is perched atop Capitol Hill, with Lady Freedom standing above the magnificent cast iron dome. The Senate and House meet here to write laws representing our vast nation.

World War II Memorial

This memorial to the “greatest generation” shines amongst the National Mall as water and stone recognize the valor of those fallen and battles fought.

US Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima)

The US Marine Corps War Memorial, also known as the Iwo Jima Memorial, is dedicated to a single branch of the US military. Based on a photo of US Marine Corps soldiers after the Battle of Iwo Jima, this is one of the largest cast bronze sculptures in the world at 32 feet.

Korean War Memorial

Iconic warriors march as one through a night watch to defend a “country they never knew and a people they never met” in the forgotten war. The Korean War Memorial reminds the public that “Freedom is Not Free” and honors the 36,500 Americans who died during this conflict.

The White House

The “People’s House” is the home and office of the President of the United States. Stroll by one of the most famous addresses in America: 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Lincoln Memorial

Perhaps the most iconic memorial on the National Mall, the Lincoln Memorial is an essential stop on any tour of Washington, DC. We will take time to traverse up the steps, visit the spot where Martin Luther King, Jr delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, and take a photo with the immense statue of Lincoln.

Martin Luther King Jr Memorial

One of the newest memorials on the National Mall honors a leader of the Civil Rights Movement, Martin Luther King, Jr. Nestled amongst the famous cherry trees of the Tidal Basin, the impressive statue and surrounding area speaks to the impact that he left on our country.

Vietnam Veterans Memorial

Tucked into a hill just around the corner from the Lincoln Memorial sits the moving Vietnam Veterans Memorial. This deeply profound memorial is often a favorite for visitors because of its thoughtful design and reflective nature.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial

A larger than life president deserves a larger than life memorial. Franklin Delano Roosevelt served as president for a total of 12 years during multiple periods of upheaval in the United States.
